In May 2011, the ESABC released a draft five-year stewardship plan (2012-2016) for public comment. The plan was approved in April of 2012. The plan includes a review of the 2007 plan and expand the Electronics and Electrical Product Category to include, on July 1, 2012, large appliances, electrical and electronic tools, medical devices, automatic dispensers, lighting equipment, toys, leisure and sports equipment, monitoring and control instruments, IT and telecommunications equipment, and the batteries found in these items. The 2012-2016 plan also commits to three performance indicators: total volume of material collected, percentage of the population with access to a collection site or event, and public awareness (percentage of the public aware of the program).
