Paint stewardship legislation, House Bill 1652, was introduced in January 2019 at the initiative of the paint industry American Coatings Association (ACA), similar to past paint stewardship legislation, passed the Legislature in April and was signed by the Governor into law on May 9, 2019.

The legislation creates a collection program for the recycling or proper disposal of unwanted architectural paint in Washington state, similar to industry-operated paint stewardship programs in other states.
