SB 6148, the Washington Small Rechargeable Battery Stewardship Act, was introduced on Jan. 24, 2012. The bill would require rechargeable battery brand owners (manufacturers) to fund and manage a statewide rechargeable battery recycling program for residents and businesses. The bill was heard by the Senate Environment Committee, watch the TVW video of the 20-minute Senate Environment Committee hearing and testimony. The companion bill, HB 2450, was referred to the House Committee on General Government Appropriations and Oversight but no action was taken and both bills died.
