S2399 was heard in the Rhode Island Senate Committee on Environment and Agriculture April 11, 2012, along with other product stewardship bills, but the Committee recommended the bills be "held for further study," the same fate as H5888 in 2011, a framework product stewardship bill which covered mattresses but did not pass. S2399 would have required mattress manufacturers to establish and finance a system for the collection, recycling, and reuse of discarded mattresses in Rhode Island.
