SB 529 introduced in 2011, would have required manufacturers of mercury-containing lighting, such as CFLs and fluorescent tubes, to set up and finance a collection system for the safe recycling of these products. The system would have served urban and rural areas of Oregon and provided free, convenient recycling. The bill also contained mercury content standards and requirements regarding the procurement of mercury containing lighing by the state. The bill did not pass.
